Lord Byron's clock
Large inoperable clock that once belonged to Lord Byron, and whose ownership is incised on its front base. It later passed into the hands of Robert Cooke, cousin of John Murray III and partner in the famous firm which published Byron’s works. Following Cooke’s death it was sold at auction in Washington D.C. in 1892 to Brazilian diplomat and writer Salvador de Mendonca and was later bought at an 1899 American Art Association auction in New York by art collector George A. Hearn. In 1971 it was acquired by Professor Andy Peter Antippas at Morton’s Auction House in New Orleans, and donated in 2015 to the Keats-Shelley House.
